Photography: Snap is back

Gala event bigger than ever

The event gets bigger and bigger with each year. Scores of evocative photos, including this one from Carrie Duplessis, head for the auction block for the AIDS Committee Of Toronto’s fifth annual Snap fundraiser. Participating photographers (more than 80!) include Michael Alago (that sexy poster shot from his recent show at O’Connor), Bruno Billio, Norman Hatton, Tony Hauser, Chris Curreri, Jesse Boles, Patrick DeCoste, Barb Cole, Toni Hafkenscheid and Joshua Jensen-Nagle. Most artworks are now viewable on-line at Snap-toronto.com; in-person previews are at Spin Gallery (1100 Queen St W) on Fri, Mar 10 and 11.

On Sun, Mar 12, the gala event moves to the new National Ballet School (400 Jarvis St) with a reception, preview and registration beginning at 6pm; the live auction starts at 7:30pm. Sumation is the night’s DJ. The gala also features the announcement of the winning entries in the community photo contest, which accepted 370 submissions from across the country. Tickets cost $40; call (416) 340-8484 ext 263.
