Mpowerment presents another movie night for young gay, bi and queer guys to come together, watch and discuss queer-themed films. News anchor Kevin Newman and his son Alex will share their story of struggle, connection and forgiveness after Alex came out at a Qmunity youth drop-in.

The Lady Show
I don’t know why, but female comics always seem to break me up far more than their male counterparts. I think deep down, whenever I hear female comics, it reminds me of my 5’4” mother waving her finger at my 6’8” self and admonishing me for something I did or didn’t do. The picture of that still makes me chuckle. Tonight you will do more than chuckle as Diana Bang, Morgan Brayton, Emma Cooper and others do sketch, stand-up, monologues and even a bit of dancing to entertain you.

Summer is almost here and it’s time to get out your leather gear and give it a good cleaning. Wild Fruit LGBTQ Dance Party
I really want to dress up in drag to go to one of these, but I think I’d be too unattractive to get hit on. But I walked by the last event and the place was rocking. By the sounds of hoots and whistles it sounded like there was a lot of naughty fun going on at the private rooftop patio as well. With DJ Ricki Rocket and DJ Tanner and music by Madonna, Daft Punk and Spice Girls all in one spot.

People Like Us
They really must mean people like you, because there is only one of me and nobody can clone this. But check out Opera Mariposa as they bring you their fourth annual charity benefit production of People Like Us, set on a single night in a New York City bar. Featuring Mark Kroeker, Andrew Wade and others in an original tale about life and love in a modern age. This musical theatre revue features a cast of Lower Mainland performers and hit songs from musicals like Rent and Company.

No, this is not some Tijuana sex show travelling to Vancouver; I walked into a show like that in Mexico once where a donkey was on stage. This is a dance party with some flair. Dai Burger from NYC is here with her endless sassy girl raps, raunchy style, twerk-a-licious dancers and a stage performance like no other. With DJs G-Luve, Jay Douglas, Quest, Airick X and hostess Alma B Itches, this night will never end until Alma’s makeup has left a face print on every pillow.

Daily Xtra Pub Night For Gayblevision
Have you ever seen Xtra’s Robin Perelle tipsy? She is so tiny I’m sure it just takes one, but come on down and let’s find out. Join Daily Xtra in support of VIVO Media Arts Centre’s project to create a digital archive of Gayblevision, Canada’s first TV show for gay people by gay people. See the people, organizations, businesses and events that defined Davie Village in the early 1980s. Gayblevision was a window into the LGBT communities during some of our key growing years, from 1980-86.

Prince vs Bowie
I would say this will be a battle to the death but maybe that’s too soon? Though with some of the voices I have heard singing before, death might be welcome. Mine is one of those voices, so a lot of alcohol is going to be needed for me to join in. Lordy Lordy Look Who’s 40
Thank you but before you start sending good wishes my way, it isn’t me. That ship sailed long ago, two decades in fact, and like the Titanic went down hard. Tonight celebrate Green Thumb Theatre and Touchstone Theatre as they both turn 40. Both companies have staged numerous gay productions such as Late Company, True Love Lies and many more. Their shared alumni are a veritable who’s who of local actors, designers, technicians and playwrights. It will be an evening of reminiscing over food, drink, dancing and maybe even a few surprises.
