Vancouver Craft Beer Week
I went to a hipster party a few weeks back where the drinks consisted of a choice of Elderflower and Lime Martini, Sage and Peppercorn Old Fashioned, or a strange concoction that was based on quinoa! Not exactly the place for a bear to be, but there is hope on the horizon. This year’s theme for Craft Beer Week is, drumroll please, Lumberjacks. Flannel-wearing, beard-growing, hairy chested, man-smelling lumberjacks. See all you bears (and maybe some side-changing hipsters) there. Tonight is Brothers In Hops night. 6-10pm. The Butcher & Bullock, 911 West Pender St. Tickets $60, and info on each night until Sunday, June 7 at vancouvercraftbeerweek.com.

We’re All Pretty Bizarre
Since I seem to attract some pretty bizarre people, I’m going to keep quiet on this one! But check out this art show inspired by the films of John Hughes. From The Breakfast Club to Ferris Bueller to Pretty in Pink, I’ve watched them all again and again. The show features several works from local artists MW Bowen and Sherri Rogers, plus submissions from numerous others, so expect portraits of Hughes’ actors, references to his plots, mash-ups and other weird and exciting interpretations from his films. Show runs until Saturday, June 27. Tonight’s opening reception runs 5-7pm but show runs Wednesdays to Saturdays 12-5pm. Hot Art Wet City, 2206 Main St. Free admission. hotartwetcity.com

Strut
Some of us strut in the bedroom, some of us strut around the house, some of us take it to the streets. (Though with size 14 feet, I have yet to experience much stiletto strutting myself.) But that shouldn’t stop everyone else who plans to walk a mile in high heels this Saturday to raise money for community organizations that support LGBT refugees, immigrants and newcomers from around the world. Sign up as an individual or as a team and get a chance to win “Best In Shoe” prizes. 12-2pm. Sunset Beach, 1200 block of Beach Ave. Registration and info at STRUTvancouver.ca
Exploring D/s: MVK
I’m usually not so good with authority, as many previous bosses and a few exes will confirm, so an afternoon of Dominance and submission classes may be just the ticket to sort me out! Brought to you by Metro Vancouver Kink, join Master Brian and slave mel for a series of three classes: It’s About The Play, It’s Not About The Play Anymore, and Dealing With Conflict in an Authority Exchange Relationship. Can you guess which one I should focus on? 2–5:30pm. Followed by a dungeon party, 8pm–1am. Maritime Labour Centre, 1880 Triumph St. Tickets for the dungeon party $20 at Little Sister’s, 1238 Davie St. Click here for more information on Facebook.

Unscripted: (H)our
When I received an email inviting me to get “under the covers” with the talented Peach Cobblah’s alter ego cutie Dave Deveau, it sounded too good to be true — and it was. The invitation was to enjoy a night of Deveau’s written work — so it’s actually even better and will last longer. Enjoy performances by Isolde N Barron, scenes from Elbow Room Café: The Musical, as well as dance lessons from Not So Strictly Ballroom. 6:30-11pm. Royal Canadian Legion, 2205 Commercial Dr. Tickets $15 here. Info here on Facebook.
