Vancouver Craft Beer Week
I went to a hipster party a few weeks back where the drinks consisted of a choice of Elderflower and Lime Martini, Sage and Peppercorn Old Fashioned, or a strange concoction that was based on quinoa! Not exactly the place for a bear to be, but there is hope on the horizon. This year’s theme for Craft Beer Week is, drumroll please, Lumberjacks. Flannel-wearing, beard-growing, hairy chested, man-smelling lumberjacks. See all you bears (and maybe some side-changing hipsters) there. Tonight is Brothers In Hops night. 6-10pm. We’re All Pretty Bizarre
Since I seem to attract some pretty bizarre people, I’m going to keep quiet on this one! But check out this art show inspired by the films of John Hughes. From The Breakfast Club to Ferris Bueller to Pretty in Pink, I’ve watched them all again and again. The show features several works from local artists MW Bowen and Sherri Rogers, plus submissions from numerous others, so expect portraits of Hughes’ actors, references to his plots, mash-ups and other weird and exciting interpretations from his films. Strut
Some of us strut in the bedroom, some of us strut around the house, some of us take it to the streets. (Though with size 14 feet, I have yet to experience much stiletto strutting myself.) But that shouldn’t stop everyone else who plans to walk a mile in high heels this Saturday to raise money for community organizations that support LGBT refugees, immigrants and newcomers from around the world. When I received an email inviting me to get “under the covers” with the talented Peach Cobblah’s alter ego cutie Dave Deveau, it sounded too good to be true — and it was. The invitation was to enjoy a night of Deveau’s written work — so it’s actually even better and will last longer. Enjoy performances by Isolde N Barron, scenes from Elbow Room Café: The Musical, as well as dance lessons from Not So Strictly Ballroom. 6:30-11pm. Cultural Diversity Night
Join Fused Society for an evening of cultural diversity with an open mic, so anyone can present in any medium.
