Choice events in the city this week

Poundcake

Say what you will, but these days I think the best spot in the Village for man candy — especially hot go-go men — is XYYVR, and this monthly night gets my attention every time. Tonight DJ GingerBear Todd shares the decks with the ever-sexy DJ Mumbles, while the Men of Ruff (yes, including Colin) get down and even dirtier than Pride. I know I can always use a good pounding! 9pm–2am. XYYVR, 1216 Bute St. Cover $5 after 10pm. More info on their Facebook page.

Whitney Houston

The old girl is gone but will she’ll live on forever in drag shows across the globe. Tonight Electric Circus has a special birthday tribute hosted by Isolde N Barron with performances by Rose Butch, Celestial Seasons, Coco and more that will make you think Whitney is back. Get the lines ready and enjoy. 9pm2am. The Cobalt, 917 Main St. Cover $5 before 10:30pm, $9 after. More info on their Facebook page.

Showtunes

If you’re like me, and you know you are, then your Pride high has started to fade, your vacation tricks are distant jack-off memories, your Visa bill has arrived and real life has settled back in. Forget all that and get your gay back on with a sing-along night of Broadway showtunes. Half-naked bartenders, Broadway clips on screen, a Cosmo in your hand and soon there will be a number, or a stranger’s hand, in your pocket. 6–9pm. 1181, 1181 Davie St. No cover. More info on their Facebook page.

Okanagan Pride: Unleashed

Is the Okanagan’s LGBT community taking a page from all the pups in training last weekend at the Davie Street Party and the Pride parade? Maybe, but their week of unleashed Pride is all about “full self-expression, unleashed from society’s view of normal, and the freedom to be who you were born to be.” The festivities start with a launch party tonight, a trans march on Aug 11, a golf tournament, a drag competition, a beach festival and more — culminating in the Pride Rally & March on Saturday, Aug 15, followed by a dance party. Think of all the new meat, I mean, friends you could meet. Kelowna is just a few hours away from Vancouver! For more on the events, schedule and tickets go to okanaganpride.com.

Whitecaps FC Pride Night

I would kill to be the towel boy in this sweaty locker room! Tonight the Whitecaps, for their third annual Pride event, take on Real Salt Lake FC, with $5 from every ticket sold going to benefit Pride in Vancouver. Game starts at 7pm at BC Place, 777 Pacific Blvd. Tickets $50 at vancouverpride.ca or go to New West Pride’s website for $30 discounted tickets and an invitation to their pre-game pub night from 3–5:30pm at The Hub, 800 Carnarvon St, in New Westminster.

Sunday, Aug 9

New Westminster Pride

Now that every tourist that came for Vancouver Pride has had their way with you, and the rope burns have faded and you’re regaining the use of your legs, you can do a little travelling and support a fellow Pride group. Take the Skytrain to New West Pride — no, it’s not over the border, it’s just a 30-minute ride away. Pride week in New West features a community brunch today from 9am–3pm at the Coming Home Café, 753 Sixth St, followed by Board Gaming with Pride, Miz Adrien’s drag show, and more. Events will continue all week, culminating with Bif Naked performing at the New West Pride street party on Saturday, Aug 15 from 3–8pm on Columbia Street, from 4th Street to Begbie Street. More info and a complete list of events at newwestpride.ca.

Tuesday, Aug 11

First Annual Love Lock Picnic

Finally something to do with all those locks you have around the house! You know which ones I mean. Think previous partners, lock and chain around your neck . . . I have a drawer full. Bring your Love Locks to put on the fence, enjoy volleyball on the beach, shoot some hoops, or relax in the hammock made from recycled fire hoses at this Pride picnic in New West brought to you by the Ambassadors of Fabulousness. 5pm–dusk. Pier Park, New Westminster. More info here.

: Man about town scurrying into every bar, restaurant, nook and cranny looking for all the details to post the events you want to see. Drop me a line if you want your GLBT themed event, meeting, social, gathering, play party, circle jerk, listed online or even if you are one short for your orgy. I always aim to please.....unless its your eye...ouch!!!
