Black Boys

The latest production at the local queer theatre is already getting buzz in the community. Billed as “an exploration of queer male blackness,” the play depicts the efforts of three black men to understand themselves, each other and their places in the world. It is performed by Stephen Jackman-Torkoff, Thomas Olajide and Tawiah Ben M’Carthy.

One of the artists whose work is on display is Kent Monkman, the Canadian Cree artist known for his paintings, performances and videos. Partial proceeds go to Sprott House, a LGBT youth shelter.

The party is billed as a “musical salute” and features performances by such singers as Gigi Marentette, Ori Dagan and Whitney Ross-Barris. Robert Scott is the pianist for the evening.

Giving Tuesday at Striker Sports Bar

The Village’s new (and only) queer sports bar is already giving back to the community, donating part of the proceeds from an event to The 519, the local queer community centre. The afternoon and evening includes a raffle, and attendees can hang out, drink and watch a hockey game — the Toronto Maple Leafs are playing the Edmonton Oilers.

4–10pm. Striker, 21 St Joseph St. For more info, visit Facebook.

Wednesday, Nov 30

Fetish Night Renewed

Tis the season to go and get whipped mercilessly. It can provide a much-needed distraction from the Christmas pop songs that all the stores are already playing on a loop — just stop it, Britney! Stop ruining Christmas with your songs about Christmas! This fetish-themed bathhouse event for men includes a flogging demo and a pup play area. Fetish gear encouraged.

8–11:30pm. Spa Excess, 105 Carlton St. spaexcess.com
