Neon Trees frontman Tyler Glenn comes out as gay

Chances are, you’ve heard a Neon Trees song at least once in your life. They’re rather ubiquitous like that. The Utah pop-rock band is primarily known for creating the kind of insatiable earworms that stay in your head for weeks on end. For example . . .

See? Catchy as hell. And, according to an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the band’s frontman, Tyler Glenn, has officially come out of the closet as gay. So there’s that too.

What’s especially interesting is that Glenn is also a practising Mormon, and he used the opportunity to talk about how he navigated his sexuality and his religion. When the subject came up, he said, “[w]e were always taught, and I hate this word, ‘tolerance,’ . . . The only time that felt different was when the Prop 8 thing came up.”

Since I briefly talked about it yesterday, pay close attention to this, Bill Donohue: this is how you open the conversation on gay rights and religious rights. Because once again, this is a dialogue worth having, and there are plenty LGBT people of faith who want both sides to come to a peaceful agreement. We can’t do that if people shut down or refuse to pitch in.
