Get ready to throb

And other choice events in Ottawa for June 1–15, 2016

Friday, June 3

Throb

No need to do the laundry, because shirtlessness is encouraged at this sexy dance party. Unapologetically geared for gay men, this bash is headlined by Montreal’s DJ Ron Hamelin, and Ashley Gauthier does the warm-up set. Organized by the creators of Sashay, this party’s dark electronic beats give it a rave feel.

10:30pm. 310 Dalhousie St. throb.club

Tuesday, June 7

Mouthing Off: All About Oral

Let’s be honest, giving good head is one of the most important skills to have. Success or failure in that area is the deciding factor in so many things. This workshop covers the ins and outs of going down on anyone (whatever those genitals may be). It includes discussion of technique, safer sex and anatomy.

6:30pm. Venus Envy, 226 Bank St. venusenvy.ca

Sunday, June 12

Support Snaps: Come Together for Mental Health

Folks get on stage for a night of mental health-themed spoken word and storytelling. Presented by the Feminist Twins, who put on so many different events, the second annual edition raises funds for charity. Those interested in performing should email feministtwins@gmail.com. First time performers welcome.

6:30pm. Pressed, 750 Gladstone Ave. For more info, visit Facebook.

Tuesday, June 14

An Evening of Sin: Sin Country Edition

Most burlesque events, while not specifically queer, are often very inclusive spaces. Very body positive, very diverse. This particular one brings together a variety of performers twice each month. For the country-themed edition, folks get on their spurs and mosey on over for a sexy, silly, tassle-swingin’ time.

9pm. Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray St. facebook.com/aneveningofsin

Wednesday, June 15

Ottawa Fringe Festival

This year’s festival is pretty light on queer content, but it’s the theatre — and, as we know, the theatre is always kind of queer. Since 1997, this particular festival has brought loads of talent to the city. Over the course of the event, theatre-lovers can enjoy productions that vary widely in style and subject matter.

Runs until Sunday, June 26. For more info, visit ottawafringe.com.

Naked Boys Singing

Who needs plot when you have a bunch of guys singing and dancing while naked? Toto Too Theatre’s production of the off-Broadway hit musical features locally-sourced, totally naked guys. The cabaret-style show includes such original songs as “Gratuitous Nudity,” “The Naked Maid” and “Perky Little Porn Star.”

Runs until Saturday, June 25, various showtimes. Live! on Elgin, 220 Elgin St. tototoo.ca
