This weekend is going to drag in a big, bold way. Both queens and kings will be singing for a wish, fighting for a title, ogling the veterans and partying at a post-Gaga show.
On Friday night, queers will take over the straight stronghold of the Great Canadian Cabin for a one-night extravaganza, Drag for a Wish. It is a night for drag kings to strut their stuff while the queens belt out golden oldies. The evening is for a good cause, with all proceeds going to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
Although Jennifer Lopez may not be the judge at Ottawa’s Queer Idol competition at Swizzles, there will be plenty of queer talent on stage. Old favourites will perform against each other in this final round, where the audience gets the chance to cast their vote for who is to be crowned Drag Idol.
And talking about idols, Ottawa’s favourite drag queen, Dixie Landers, returns to the stage on Sunday night at the Flamingo bar. After a long hiatus, she performs our favourite songs and croons some new tunes.
While Dixie camps it up at the Flamingo, Lady Gaga will be performing her own campy tunes at Scotia Bank Place to a stadium of screaming teens and queens. It is going to be a gaga evening – and a reminder to all queers that you were born this way.
