Choice events in the city this week

Thursday, Nov 10

ArtAttack!

The local queer theatre’s annual art auction (and super fancy social event) returns with a camp theme (and you thought it couldn’t get any campier). There’s campfire songs, ’smores and more. With proceeds going back to Buddies, the event includes works by more than 25 Canadian artists. To view everything that will be auctioned off, click here.

7–11pm. Buddies in Bad Times, 12 Alexander St. buddiesinbadtimes.com

Saturday, Nov 12

Femme Lineage Writing Workshop with Hannah Harris-Sutro

Femme folks of all genders are invited to attend a writing workshop where, according to billing, they will write “within a lineage of femme creators and ancestors.” No previous writing experience is required to attend. This event is part of Glad Day’s Naked Heart Festival, the world’s largest LGBT literary festival.

3:30pm. The Xtra Lounge, 2 Carlton St. For more info, visit Facebook.

CLGA Flashback Gala: Electric Circus

Wish it was still the 1990s? Me neither. But it might be fun to visit that decade for an evening. Each year, the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives throws a big, themed gala. This year’s event is Electric Circus-themed. It’s even hosted by Monika Deol, a TV personality who was a fixture on Much Music and CityTV in the ’90s.

6pm–2am. The Bram and Bluma Appel Salon, 789 Yonge St. clga.ca

Trade: Tom of Finland

This edition of the big, dirty, cruisy dance party includes a tribute to artist Tom of Finland, perhaps the most famous creator of gay erotic art. As such, attendees are encouraged to wear clothing reminiscent of Tom of Finland’s works. That means leather, chaps, harnesses, gloves, shiny boots and more. DJs Darren Dryden and Sammy Jo spin.

10pm–3am. The Black Eagle, 457 Church St. facebook.com/getsometrade

Tuesday, Nov 15

Sharron Matthews Naked

Cabaret sensation Sharron Matthews, former (and the first ever) cabaret artist-in-residence at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, returns to the local queer theatre with a night of song and story. This intimate performance will include her singular arrangements of songs by such artists as Amy Winehouse, Beyoncé, Annie Lennox and Serena Ryder.

8pm. Runs until Thursday, Nov 17 . Buddies in Bad Times, 12 Alexander St. buddiesinbadtimes.com

Chantel Marostica and Friends

Comedian Chantel Marostica has long claimed to have friends — and now there’s proof! She’s joined by a host of her talented performer friends — Chris Locke, Sara Hennessy, Nigel Grinstead, Aisha Brown, Dan Glasswick and others — for a night of comedy. Proceeds go to Marostica’s planned upcoming top surgery.

9:30pm–2am. Comedy Bar, 945 Bloor St W. For more info, visit Facebook.
