Toto Too Theatre wants guys of all body types — twinks, toughs, bears and beyond — to audition for its June 2016 production of Naked Boys Singing.
This production of the off-Broadway hit musical comedy will feature six or eight fully naked men singing and dancing on stage. The show has no plot — it’s a cabaret-style show consisting of 17 musical numbers.
Some of the songs cover gay-specific subject matter (such as coming out), and others involve issues that are more universal (such as body image, circumcision and love). Among the more suggestive titles are “Gratuitous Nudity,” “The Naked Maid” and “Perky Little Porn Star.”
Toto Too’s promotional material emphasizes that while this is fun, adult-oriented entertainment, “it is not presented in a lewd or lascivious manner.”
“People should understand that this is not a strip show. It’s original music and it’s written with a purpose in mind,” says Ted Chartrand, board chair and managing director of Toto Too Theatre. “The guys that do this show don’t have to be afraid of losing their dignity.”
The audition is open to all men who are more than 18 years of age. In terms of physical requirements, promotional material says it’s “not a beef cake show” and that Toto Too is looking for people who are “comfortable in [their] skin” and can, of course, sing well. Guys must register in advance and come prepared.
“We’d like to have something for everybody in this,” Chartrand says.
