Au revoir, monsieur Lou

No more walking on the wild side.

Lou Reed, the man who told us about Holly from Miami, Florida, has died, Rolling Stone reports. He was 71.

Reed was one of the founders of The Velvet Underground and the brains behind “Venus in Furs,” “Heroin” and “All Tomorrow’s Parties.”

Reed always had a queer bent to him, and not just on his album covers. He was perhaps best known for “Perfect Day” and “Walk on the Wild Side,” a song that detailed the lives of many of the denizens of Andy Warhol’s Factory, including the aforementioned Holly Woodlawn, Candy Darling and Joe Dallesandro.

Reed is survived by his partner, Laurie Anderson.

Journalist, writer, blogger, producer.
