Crowning moment

Sultana Corangie wins Miss She Ottawa Continental

Sultana Corangie was crowned Miss She Ottawa Continental during the third annual pageant held Nov 2 at the National Arts Centre. Sultana will go on to represent Ottawa in the Miss Toronto Continental pageant.

Sultana – who beat out two other contestants, Maxima Coverage and Pussy Willow – impressed the panel of 11 judges, including head judge Dominique Levesque, a former Miss Canada title holder. The three contestants entertained a sold-out crowd through four competitions – swimsuit, talent, evening gown and finally the “question and answer,” the only opportunity contestants had to speak to the audience and panel of judges.

The swimsuit and evening gown competitions were won by Sultana Corangie. Maxima Coverage nabbed the Question and Answer prize for her poised response and Pussy Willow received a standing ovation and the talent award for her stunning dance performance of Human Nature by Madonna.

Throughout the night other title holders past and present meandered about ready to perform and wow the audience. Former Miss She Ottawa Continental winners Terri Stevens and Sydney Chanel, Miss Gay Ottawa Queen of Pride Corinne Denopolis, Miss Gay Universe Ottawa Lux Darling and Miss Icon Miss Delicious all took to the stage. One of the evening’s highlights was during intermission when Sherrie Gold made a surprise guest appearance

Claudette Demeanor hosted the evening and kept the event fun and light with more costume changes than a Donna Summer concert. Her hilarious, sometimes expletive-laced, banter even landed her a job as one of the hosts for the Miss Toronto Continental pageant.

As the evening came to a close, last year’s Miss She Ottawa Continental, Terri Stevens, performed one last time before taking her final bow as she joined Claudette Demeanor in announcing the winners.

Sultana’s win was met with invigorating applause from the audience. Pussy Willow was named first runner-up and Maxima Coverage second runner-up. A victory party was held after the pageant at Icon, where praise came from all corners for Sultana, including her competitors.

She’s beautiful, talented and headed to Toronto. We wish her luck!
