Batman: arousing homos since the 1950s

Today's stories that have queer people talking

With The Dark Knight a massive hit, blogger Tyrion Lannister looks back on the hysterical 1950’s belief that Batman was gay. Psychiatrist Frederic Wertham insisted: “The Batman type of story may stimulate children to homosexual fantasies.” So to stop those homosexual fantasies, recent films have gotten rid of the Robin kid, encased Batman in black rubber and hired Christian Bale to play him. Good job!

Two Montreal psychiatrists have uncovered a new mental illness: in what they call “the Truman Show Delusion,” people believe that their lives are fake and actually being filmed for a reality TV show watched by the rest of world. This is clearly crazy behaviour as we all know that everyone in the world is too busy reading this blog. EVERYONE!

Project Runway winner Christian Siriano debuted his new line yesterday, raising eyebrows with a $96 T-shirt. I’d buy one but my wallet is a hot tranny mess right now.

Worried there’s been one mention of Neil Patrick Harris too many on this site lately? Well, suck it — he’s awesome and his appearance on Sesame Street as ‘The Shoe Fairy’ is proof!

A former editor of the late, lamented fab magazine, Scott has been writing for Xtra since 2007 on a variety of topics in news pieces, interviews, blogs, reviews and humour pieces. He lives on the Danforth with his boyfriend of 12 years, a manic Jack Russell Terrier, a well-stocked mini-bar and a shelf of toy Daleks.
