Elton John performs at Fashion Cares

Last hurrah for AIDS Committee of Toronto fundraiser

Elton John, the Scissor Sisters and Linda Evangelista were among the A-list celebrities on the red carpet for the 25th Fashion Cares fundraiser at Toronto’s Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

The event raised money for the AIDS Committee of Toronto and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

“AIDS is still taking lives, “ says Ana Matronic of Scissor Sisters. “It has taken the lives of dear friends of mine and my father. And we are representing them and making a tribute in their memory.”

Despite cancelling a Sept 8 show in Peterborough, Ontario, Elton John was in fine form for Fashion Cares. He performed four songs and took part in the grand finale.

This was the final Fashion Cares fundraiser.

On occasion, the number of editors and other staff who contribute to a story gets a little unwieldy to give a byline to everyone. That’s when we use “Xtra Staff” in place of the usual contributor info. If you would like more information on who contributed to a particular story, please contact us here.
