BY ADAM M GLEN – Wasn’t 2008 a great year?
Well okay, there was that whole financial meltdown and the burst of the housing bubble. But the upside was the election of American President Barack Obama. He was the man who was going to change everything. Everything except marriage inequality.
Obama has stated before that he does not believe in same-sex marriage, despite acknowledging that he will probably end up on “the wrong side of history.” But now Obama may have to change his mind, considering this week’s announcement by Vice-President Joe Biden that he is “absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women” must be allowed if everyone is to have equal rights.
In the same MSNBC interview he said, “I think Will & Grace probably did more to educate the American public than almost anything anybody’s ever done so far.”
Of course, our bestest buddies NOM (National Organization for Marriage) took Biden’s support of marriage equality as a declaration of war on the 30 states with constitutions that state that marriage is between one man and one woman. NOM’s press release states, “What Joe Biden wants — genderless marriage that kowtows to the demands of
gay couples — cannot exist alongside traditional marriage. Only one
definition of marriage can exist.”
Nothing fills you with love like an American election season . . . that and kittens.
