The Game calls out gay hip-hop stars

The Game is speaking his mind, and it’s equally refreshing and cringe-worthy. Talking about homosexuality in hip hop, the “My Life” hit-maker said, “I think there are several rappers that are in the closet and gay. They are the only type of gay people that I have a problem with. I don’t have a problem with gay people. Gay people are everywhere and rightfully so; it’s a free country. Game has no problem with gay people. Game has a problem with people who are pretending not to be gay. The number-one issue with that is that you can be fooling somebody and you could give them AIDS and they can die. So that in-the-closet shit is real scary. We got to get into the seriousness of it. If you’re gay, just say you’re gay. So be cool and be proud.”

I’m glad he’s open-minded and wants everyone to be comfortable enough to be out of the closet, whether they’re in hip hop or not. But what is he suggesting by bringing up AIDS? It’s like when Sherri Shepherd from The View said HIV infection was so high in the black community because of “all the brothers on the DL.” I thought Barbara should’ve fired the bitch for that one. It’s dangerous for Sherri or Game to spread that kind of ignorant misinformation. Poverty and unprotected sex (both homosexual and heterosexual) play a much more significant role in HIV infection than some douchebag cheating on his wife with a man.

When asked if he thought he had ever worked with a gay hip-hop star, Game went on to say, “Possibly, yeah. And not being just full-out gay, just pretending he loves girls and lives the rap lifestyle, but really he’s a man fan.”

I think it’s really cool of Game to speak out like this. He has a lot of fans in the hip-hop world, which is known for homophobia, so hopefully he’ll inspire some acceptance and maybe even boost courage for those struggling with coming out.
