Christopher Raynsford murder trial set for 2006

The long-delayed trial of Sebastien Roy, accused of the first-degree murder of Ottawa gay man Christopher Raynsford, is now set for Sep 11, 2006.

The trial was set to begin this past February, until Roy unexpectedly fired his lawyer.

Raynsford’s decomposing body was discovered in his Lisgar St apartment in early December, 2002. The amateur actor hadn’t been seen by his friends, family or co-workers at Le Café in over a week. Autopsy results showed he had been beaten to death.

Roy has a violent criminal record that includes at least one conviction for extortion in Quebec.

Roy was arrested in Quebec City on Jan 16, 2003.
