Students fight for GSAs

This past year was ruled by students demanding their right to have gay-straight alliance groups in schools across Ontario, including Catholic schools.

Xtra made the students fighting for GSAs the Newsmakers of the Year, and it was the most-talked-about issue among our readers in 2011. Xtra’s reportage was spearheaded by Andrea Houston.

The student’s activism forced the issue onto the floor of the Ontario legislature and caught the attention of mainstream national and international media outlets.
