Tough questions after New York murder

Some wonder if media is ignoring the race of victim Mark Carson?

New Yorkers are reeling after a rash of violent incidents targeting gay men, including the murder of Mark Carson on the streets of Greenwich Village.

“The Village is just one example of where and how we exist, but it’s central to who we are,” says community member Louis Farmer. “For many people it’s a sense of identity. It’s a defining moment for who and what they are, and now it’s considered a place where you can get killed.”

Farmer and others interviewed by Xtra questioned whether the media and community are paying enough attention to the fact that Carson was a man of colour.
