Talackova breaks top 12 in Miss Universe Canada

Woman makes history as first openly transgender contestant

Jenna Talackova, the BC woman who made headlines earlier this spring as the first openly transgender contestant in the Miss Universe Canada pageant, finished in the top 12 in the competition on May 19 in Toronto.

Xtra reporter Lucas Silveira asked some of those in attendance about Talackova’s presence in the competition, what it means for Miss Universe, and what it means for trans people.
