Keep the Lights On opens in Toronto

Director Ira Sachs talks about the award-winning film

Keep the Lights On was the sweetheart film on this year’s festival circuit. It picked up a Teddy Award in Berlin and Best Dramatic Feature at Outfest.

The film is now in wider release and is premiering at TIFF Bell Lightbox on Oct 12.

“It was a very personal story, and I’ve been encouraged that by telling something so personal I think I have made something people respond to intimately themselves,” says director Ira Sachs.

The movie follows the story of a gay New York couple dealing with the challenges of a relationship, with the wild card of addiction thrown into the mix.

Sachs, who is based in New York, will be answering questions via Skype following the screening on Oct 12.

Below are clips from the film and our interview with Sachs, also done via Skype.

On occasion, the number of editors and other staff who contribute to a story gets a little unwieldy to give a byline to everyone. That’s when we use “Xtra Staff” in place of the usual contributor info. If you would like more information on who contributed to a particular story, please contact us here.
