Irshad Manji under attack in Europe

Muslim extremists issue death threat

Irshad Manji, a lesbian Canadian author and activist, has come under attack in Europe by Muslim extremists. The author of Allah, Liberty and Love was taking part in a panel discussion in Amsterdam on Dec 7 when about 22 people stormed the room where she was speaking, ordering that the event be stopped.

According to Manji’s website, irshadmanji.com, they “ordered her execution and pledged to break her neck.”

The European Foundation for Democracy, which sponsored the event, says that the radicals are members of Sharia4Belgium, a group that aims to impose sharia law throughout Europe. It is being reported that two of the protesters have been arrested.

Before leaving for Europe, Manji talked with Xtra about her critics and why she continues to fight for reform within Islam. Below is an excerpt from that interview and video footage of the confrontation.
