Chappell Roan just cleared up some 2010s-era twink drama.
Connor Franta confirmed that he and fellow YouTube veteran Troye Sivan—aka “Tronnor”— dated for two years, which is something I can’t believe I’m writing in the year 2025.
The mid-2010s was a weird time online, and one that feels so wildly different from the internet we know today. But somehow, the speculation of whether Franta and Sivan dated has managed to stay in the cultural consciousness.
This whole thing got reignited when Sivan posted a much-memed photo of him and Chappell Roan from 2015, with Franta cropped out. Then Franta posted a version of the photo with just him and Roan with the caption “my good side,” which references Sivan’s song about getting “the good side” of a breakup.
How did this photo even come to be? Back when Chappell Roan was uploading videos of herself singing to YouTube as a teenager, Franta and Sivan became avid fans. Franta spoke about his early support for Roan in 2024, and further fuelled the dating rumours where he referenced discovering her with his “boyfriend at the time.”
Following the silly Instagram back and forth, Franta posted a video this week aptly titled “my good side,” where he confirmed what many fans assumed after a decade of speculation.
So, thanks, Chappell Roan, for helping close the loop on an ancient gay internet rumour. You really are a giver.
