Transgender Day of Remembrance 2016 across Canada

A list of events across the country to honour the lives of those lost to violence

Sunday, Nov 20, 2016 is this year’s Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR), honouring the memory of those who lost their lives to acts of anti-transgender violence.

Trans lives continue to be threatened around the globe: the homicide rate among transgender people hit a historic high in the US in 2015, with many of those killed being trans women of colour; many people are killed for being trans in numerous countries around the world; and our trans communities in Canada continue to face violence, in a country that keeps no official record of how many trans folks are killed or injured due to hate crimes.

Daily Xtra has compiled a list of events and observances taking place across Canada this weekend paying tribute to the lives of those lost to violence.
