How tiptap is paying it forward with LGBTQ2S+ communities

The technology start-up’s contactless donations is helping LGBTQ2S+ charities and beyond

Technology start-up tiptap’s passion is to help not-for-profits raise the critical funds they need to provide their services to the communities they support; over 1,000 to date. Most people don’t realize that small donations are the lifeblood of charities. Nowadays, our smartphones are way more accessible than any spare change in our pockets, making cash donations mostly a thing of the past. Over the past five years, as we’ve moved into an increasingly cashless society, tiptap—through its autonomous touchless giving™ devices—has allowed charities not only to make up for the lack of small cash donations, but has helped them surpass their fundraising goals. All one has to do is tap their phone or credit/debit card to give securely and safely in preset amounts. During Pride season, we’re spotlighting a few of the LGBTQ2S+ groups tiptap is supporting; there’s no time like the present to tap to give™.

With a history dating back to 1970, this not-for-profit has been a pillar of the city’s queer community for decades. If you attended the (always fun) annual Pride Parade—complete with amazing outfits, exposed skin and a healthy dose of glitter—you will have seen tiptap taking part in the procession, along with their devices peppered throughout the parade. (Did you spot their vehicles topped with a monitor that displayed how much has been donated with their devices?) This year, for its charity of choice, Pride has partnered up with The Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention (Black CAP). Black CAP is the country’s largest organization supporting Caribbean, African and Black communities impacted by HIV/AIDS since 1989, through awareness campaigns, harm reduction programs and peer support groups.

CANFAR

Established in 1987, the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research set out with the hefty goal of putting a stop to the country’s HIV epidemic and ending the stigma associated with this devastating disease. With cases on the rise again, as six new people become infected every day, it’s important to contribute to this cause now more than ever. CANFAR lends financial support to HIV/AIDS research, including over $4,500,000 towards funding the prevention drug, PrEP, since its creation. On April 28th, they took to the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto for a luncheon, in partnership with tiptap. The sold-out event was attended by 400 people, 25 percent of which contributed to raising $9,250 for the cause by using tiptap devices.

Rainbow Foundation of Hope

This Vancouver-based organization works hard to enable the safe migration of LGBTQ2S+ individuals to Canada—raising funds that support immigrant community groups and associated charities. From privately sponsoring migrants to assisting in resettlement services, the foundation follows newcomers every step of the way as they leave often dangerous situations behind. Throughout the month of June, they will be raising funds all around Vancouver with the help of 10 counter displays, two selfie sticks and two floor stands equipped with tiptap tech. Now, all that’s missing is for you to drop by—keep your eyes peeled for their rainbow and butterfly design and remember that no tap is too small.

Founded in 1983 at the devastating start of the global AIDs epidemic, the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) is one of the leading nonprofits working to reduce new infections and promote the dignity and health of those living with HIV and AIDS. A pillar of the LGBTQ2S+ community in Toronto, ACT is partnering with tiptap for the month of June on its Fly With Pride campaign, which invites all members of the community to show their pride by donating to ACT at one of the many tiptap installations around the city and visiting the Fly With Pride display at Union Station. The installation offers passersby the chance to not only donate to ACT, but also to light up the angel wing display in a unique colour pattern based on how they personally identify. Thanks to this colourful, “nanoleaf” technology, being proud never looked so good!
