Stonewall slammed for lack of trans and non-white characters
Stonewall, an upcoming quasi-historical film about the riots that sparked the modern gay rights movement, is being widely criticized for focusing on a fictional white cis man, instead of the black trans women who were actually at the centre of the action. Mic tells the story of the women, like Marsha P Johnson, who set off the riots. Director Roland Emmerich has responded, asking his audience to wait and see, promising that the film “honors the real-life activists who were there.”

Filipino gay couples stage mass marriage attempt
Gay couples around the Philippines applied for marriage licences in their local city halls this week, in an effort to build justification for a national lawsuit. Even though the applications were all rejected, gay rights organizers say the attempts will help lawyers fight to change the country’s family code.
Swiss bishop: “Family diversity is an attack on the Creator”
Controversial conservative Swiss bishop Vitus Huonder doubled down on his anti-gay stance this week, saying in a speech that “even speaking of family diversity is an attack on the Creator,” and suggesting that gay people ought to be killed. Huonder’s fundamentalism seems to buck the slight softening of Vatican attitudes towards gay people under Pope Francis.
