Canadian queers are rallying to provide relief for victims of the humanitarian disaster in Haiti. Just days after the Jan 12 earthquake, queer performers, including Trey Anthony, Ryan G Hinds, Dainty Smith, House of Monroe, Jade Electra and Sofonda Cox are already lining up behind the project.
A fundraiser has been announced at Toronto’s Buddies in Bad Times for Jan 24. This is a bit of a mouthful, but the event is billed as To Haiti With Love: A Fundraising Event from Toronto’s Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans and Queer Community in Solidarity with the People of Haiti. Musical acts include Lal, Amai Kuda et Les Bois, and DJs Nik Red, Sumation and Craig Dominic.

In the meantime, you can donate directly at the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders websites.
You can also donate by texting the word “Haiti” to 45678. Two cautions: the money goes to the notoriously homophobic Salvation Army and the latest reports suggest your cash won’t exactly reach Haiti at lightning speed. Bottom line: while the technology is cool, the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders websites are probably your better bet.
