Pink Triangle Press (PTP), the publishers of Xtra, will be moving its Toronto head office from its Church St location to a new home near Yonge and Carlton Sts.
“We need more space,” says PTP executive director Ken Popert. “The constriction on the current space is such that there’s no reasonable prospect that the landlord can do anything to provide us with additional room.”
Popert says the time is right because the lease on PTP’s current home at 491 Church St will be up at the end of July.
“Our landlord at 491 assumed a take-it-or-leave-it approach to negotiations, which is unfortunate, but also the Church St building is not very well built,” he says. “One of the things I won’t miss is running around after every rainstorm looking for leaks in the roof.”
The new location is the entire 16th floor of 2 Carleton St, space occupied previously by the office of the Toronto International Film Festival.
Popert says the move will likely happen sometime in the spring of 2011, prior to Pride.
