A Canadian man who was attending a conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, alleges that he was sexually assaulted, beaten and robbed by another man he met on the Grindr dating app, NBC News reports.
NBC says the Canadian man, who requested anonymity, invited the suspect to his hotel room, where he was allegedly assaulted at gunpoint. The report says the suspect then allegedly coerced the man to buy gift cards totalling $2,000 and withdraw hundreds of dollars from different ATM machines.
The man told NBC in a phone interview that he eventually managed to escape the suspect at a bar, where security cameras recorded a scuffle between the two. Police have released a description of the suspect and are asking the public for help in identifying him.
