A 55-year-old man collapsed and died at the queer dance party Revival on Jun 30 at the Guvernment.
Police say the man is believed to have taken a product called Pure Rush, which is marketed as a natural alternative to ecstacy.
The man, who had a preexisting heart condition, collapsed after taking the product and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to a police release.
Police say they are considering filing charges against the Canadian distributors of Pure Rush under the federal Food and Drug Act for marketing a harmful substance as something safe and natural.
The active ingredient in Pure Rush, benzylpiperazine, was banned in the US in 2002 based on studies that found its effect is similar to that of methamphetamines.
