Kevin Kindred & NSRAP voted among the best of Halifax

Every year, Halifax’s alt-weekly, The Coast, puts out its Best of Halifax list, based on votes from their readership. And this year’s crop is rather queer.

Kevin Kindred, who is well known to Haliqueers for his work with the Nova Scotia Rainbow Action Project, was awarded Best Activist in this year’s list. He told The Coast, “I’ve had the advantage of a lot of work done by generations before me, and so I want to honour that and in turn help make the world a better place. “

Last year’s win was awarded posthumously to another activist, Raymond Taavel. NSRAP was also a recipient of a Best of Award, earning second place for Best Activist Organization. Both Kindred and NSRAP were instrumental in bringing public attention and change to the province’s stance on funding sex-reassignment surgeries.

Over at Best Haliqueer, drag performer Rouge Fatale got first place, and former mayoral candidate and entrepreneur Fred Connors garnered silver, with the aforementioned Kindred grabbing the bronze. Fatale also received first place for Best Drag Performer, followed by Eureka Love and Elle Noir.

Kudos and congratulations to all of the winners!
