Obama invokes gay rights at Selma
On the 50th anniversary of the march for racial equality in Selma, Alabama, US President Barack Obama connected black activists to the contemporary gay rights movement: “Because of what they did, the doors of opportunity swung open not just for African-Americans, but for every American. Women marched through those doors. Latinos marched through those doors. Asian-Americans, gay Americans, and Americans with disabilities came through those doors… We are the gay Americans whose blood ran on the streets of San Francisco and New York, just as blood ran down this bridge.”
One in five gay UK teens face bullying
According to a study by the UK’s National AIDS Trust, one in five gay teenagers in the country are bullied by teachers and classmates. The study also suggested that poor sex education is driving rising HIV rates among young gay men.
