Crowded race to replace Kyle Rae in Toronto’s Ward 27

Toronto’s municipal election isn’t until Oct 25, but the race to replace Kyle Rae as councillor of Ward 27 is already crowded.

Two more officially registered their candidacy for Ward 27 today, which includes Toronto’s Church-Wellesley Village. That brings the total number of registered candidates to six; the most for any ward so far, as of Jan 20.

Enza Anderson, a trans woman who ran for mayor in 2000 and then ran for leadership of the Canadian Alliance in 2002, has officially registered with the city. Trans activist and community organizer Susan Gapka also filed her papers this morning, confirming the news on Twitter.

Chris Tindal registered his candidacy yesterday.

They join Rob Salerno, Paul Spence and Simon Wookey — all of whom have officially registered with the city. Ken Chan, a former aide to George Smitherman, has confirmed on Twitter that he also intends to run for the seat.
