Chris Hyndman, one half of the daytime television show Steven and Chris, was found dead in an alleyway in Toronto’s east end, according to media reports.
Toronto Police Service spokesperson Victor Kwong would not confirm to Daily Xtra whether the body found was Hyndman’s, but the CBC reports that police have confirmed that he was found at about 11pm on Aug 3, 2015, near Queen and Broadview.
The investigation is still ongoing, but Kwong says they are no longer looking for any additional witnesses.
On Instagram, Hyndman and his husband Steven Sabados had recently shared several photos from a trip to Barbados. The most recent photo, posted on Aug 3, was taken on the patio of their Toronto home.
Originally known as the Designer Guys, Hyndman and Sabados were featured on Oprah and their shows are syndicated internationally.
Hyndman and Sabados started hosting the popular Steven and Chris show on CBC in 2008, where they presented design, style and cooking tips.
Hyndman told Daily Xtra in 2013 that they wanted to be honest about who they were in every episode of their show.
“We don’t hide it at all. We haven’t for years,” Hyndman said. “A lifestyle show lends itself to talking about your own personal situation. I couldn’t say, ‘In my house, I like to . . .’ when we live together, so we have to say, ‘In our house, we clean like this, or he cooks like this.’”
According to the CBC, remaining episodes of the show have been pulled from air.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to Steven, family, friends, colleagues and his many fans at this most difficult time; our thoughts are with them all,” said CBC spokesperson Chuck Thompson in a statement.
Condolences for Hyndman poured out on social media, where he was remembered primarily for his kindness.
