Ottawa performer Glenn Nuotio has set the outing of John Baird to music. In a short clip he began distributing yesterday, Nuotio has put laid-back beats behind CBC radio host Andy Barrie’s interview with Pam Taylor.
On Tuesday morning, Taylor, who is running under the Progressive Conservative banner in an Ontario By-election, outed federal cabinet minister John Baird during an exchange about her party’s queer bona fides.
Behind a spliced version of the interview, Nuotio has grafted a slightly sinister piano riff and Garage Band-style beats. In the second half, he loops Taylor’s four-word gaffe (“Openly gay? John Baird.”) under the interview, until just the loop remains — and the sound of crickets.
Nuotio is known for his cheeky, cabaret-style pop songs, including satirical ditties about Ottawa mayor Larry O’Brien (who last year was acquitted of influence peddling) and the femme fatales of 100 Huntley Street.
