I grew up in a very country-and-western-influenced house, so while all the cool kids got to spend the ‘90s listening to Pavement and Liz Phair, I got Shania Twain and Garth Brooks. Garth Brooks during his Chris Gaines days. It’s a miracle I made it into adulthood. As much as I still love country, it’s still not exactly the most tolerant place. There’s unfortunately still an underlying homophobia to the genre, which is why this endorsment is kind of . . . surprising. Via The Independent:

Bear in mind, when your biggest hit as a recording artist is a song about a heterosexual relationship imploding, culminating in the complete and total obliteration of your cheating ex’s new car, it’s easy to see how someone can look at gay guys and think, “Yup, this is WAY less dyfunctional. By all means, marry away.”
