LGBT activist murdered in Bangladesh
The editor of Bangladesh’s only LGBT magazine was hacked to death in an apartment in the country’s capital Dakar. One other person was killed, and one injured. Xulhaz Mannan launched the magazine Roopbaan two years ago. His murder is the latest of a series of attacks on secular writers and liberal activists in the Muslim nation.

90-year-old Pennsylvania senator to remarry to a man
In a letter to the New York Times, 90-year-old former Pennsylvania state senator Harris Wofford describes how after the death of his wife of 48 years, he fell in love again and decided to remarry, this time to a man. He writes: “Too often, our society seeks to label people by pinning them on the wall — straight, gay or in between. I don’t categorize myself based on the gender of those I love. I had a half-century of marriage with a wonderful woman, and now am lucky for a second time to have found happiness.”
BBC sets LGBT target of one in 12 TV stars
The UK’s public broadcaster, the BBC, has a new goal to make eight percent of TV stars LGBT by the year 2020. The targets were set by the House of Commons, and also mandate eight percent people with disabilities, and 50 percent women.
Malaysia: Gay people can’t be cops
A top Malaysian police official says that LGBT people cannot serve as police officers, even if they are otherwise qualified. “I am not the one who dictates this culture, but it is the acceptance of our community,” he said. “We just follow our ways here.”

World Bank to hire LGBT advisor
The world’s largest international development organization, the World Bank, says it is searching for a senior advisor to help protect LGBT communities. The bank says the advisor would help use its $65-billion yearly budget in ways that benefit endangered LGBT communities.
