‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7’ Episode 6 power ranking: A whole new ballgame

Suddenly, the underdogs are the frontrunners

Welcome to RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Power Rankings! Every Saturday, we’ll debrief the week’s new episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7 to determine which queens are riding high, and which need she-mergency care. With Yvie Oddly receiving two Legendary Legend Stars this week, she makes a huge leap up the board—leaving an early frontrunner at the bottom of the list.

Monét X Change

Current Star Count: 1

Maxi-Challenges Won: 1

Lip Syncs Won: 0

As expected, Monét’s plan to get a bonus star didn’t work out. Still, I admire her for trying—she did everything she could to get a star in a week when she was blocked. This week, without a block holding her down, would’ve been a great time for Monét to get another star, but for whatever reason, Ru decided to judge a girl group challenge like it was a comedy task. I can get Monét losing out to The Vivienne based on the runway, but to me, M.S.T.R. was well ahead of The Other Girls, and I’d probably have awarded Monét and Shea Couleé the top two slots. (Honestly, Monét deserved it for “You are the Weakest Link, dust it off, try again” alone!) Unfortunately, with this missed opportunity for the win, Monét is now at the bottom of the ranking next to Raja. But a single challenge win could quickly reverse her fortunes.

Raja

Current Star Count: 1

Maxi-Challenges Won: 1

Lip Syncs Won: 0

Raja’s admitted in interviews that she hasn’t been “savvy” this season about her gameplay. And I’ll agree, she does seem a bit out of the loop when it comes to strategy. However, I do think she made the correct play by giving Yvie Oddly the star. True, it resulted in Yvie getting two stars in one episode, leaving Raja tied for last on this power ranking. But had she given one to anyone else, then they’d have had two anyway. Yvie having two was a less likely result—Raja just hit some bad luck. Ultimately there wasn’t much chance for Raja to win another this week, as her nonsensical lyrics paled in comparison to two of her groupmates’ efforts. And while her Dolly Parton runway was great, it wasn’t enough to boost her fortunes. Still, with another design challenge coming down the pike, Raja’s got another chance to pick up a win for a fashion task. Will the judges notice her work this time around?

Shea Couleé

Current Star Count: 1

Maxi-Challenges Won: 1

Lip Syncs Won: 1

Shea has every right to feel robbed this week—this absolutely should’ve been her victory. “Hell no, boy, you best stop trippin’/ What’s wrong, boo, your CD skippin’?” was genius, her flow was as flawless as ever and her execution of the choreography was terrific. Seriously, what does Shea have to do to get more than just some positive notices in deliberations again? She keeps bumping up against the top two, and Ru’s praise of her has grown more and more effusive. Shea correctly noted that she’s been fading into the background in the competition, but I don’t think she’s to blame for that. She’s been excellent, never more so than this week. Ru just needs to get invested in her again.

Trinity the Tuck

Current Star Count: 1

Maxi-Challenges Won: 2

Lip Syncs Won: 0

More than anyone, I think Trinity will welcome another design challenge next week. She’s been struggling to get noticed over the last few challenges, and getting no shout-outs during deliberations since her two challenge wins. While queens like Jinkx and Viv have charmed the judges repeatedly, and Jaida, Raja and Yvie have had standout moments, Trinity has fallen behind in the power ranking. I’m not sure she was ever going to get the wind back in her sails for a girl group challenge—we’ve heard too many Trinity Rumix verses to know better at this point. And while I liked her Dolly dress, she didn’t embrace the Parton spirit in the way I expected her to as a Southern queen. Next week is the time to reverse her fortunes, because momentum is not on her side at this point.

The Vivienne

Current Star Count: 1

Maxi-Challenges Won: 2

Lip Syncs Won: 2

Viv’s racking up quite the lip sync record across her Drag Race career. She’s 4-0 now, and handed both Jinkx Monsoon and Yvie their first lip sync losses ever. This win was particularly impressive, as she channelled Dolly in a way I wouldn’t have thought would be in her wheelhouse. She also had the best Dolly runway this week, which I think boosted her into the top two. I’d understand putting her there if she was next to Shea, but I’m still confused as to how the top two were her and Yvie. Ultimately I get why she blocked Jinkx, but considering it’s a design challenge next week, there were probably better bets on who to hand that plunger to.

Yvie Oddly

Current Star Count: 2

Maxi-Challenges Won: 1

Lip Syncs Won: 0

I give props to Yvie for really tickling the judges’ sweet spot this week. Both Ru and Tove Lo seemed bowled over by Yvie’s efforts, and while I don’t personally agree, I do get that she stood out. Ross Mathews made the (surprisingly smart) note that Yvie’s triplets in her lyrics sound distinctly different than what everyone else does. Combined with her modem sound effects, and a surprisingly strong take on Dolly Parton on the runway, and it was enough to get the top two slot. But as we saw in the preview, Yvie’s lost the benefit of an under-the-radar game—she’s in the Twinners’ sights now.

Jaida Essence Hall

Current Star Count: 2

Maxi-Challenges Won: 1

Lip Syncs Won: 1

Jaida’s friendship with Jinkx paid dividends this week, as she earned one of the two bonus stars and pulled into a remarkably strong position. It ultimately didn’t matter how she did this week—in fact, winning might’ve put a bigger target on her back—but I do think her diarrhea-related lyrics may have ultimately held her back. Ru likes to be the one making flatulence-related jokes around here! And in the Night of 1000 Dollys runway, I liked her dress, but it didn’t stand out next to some of the more impressive efforts. Still, the design challenge next week bodes well for her, considering how the Realness of Fortune Ball went. Could she be the first queen to hit three stars?

Jinkx Monsoon

Current Star Count: 2

Maxi-Challenges Won: 3

Lip Syncs Won: 2

This wasn’t Jinkx’s best week, but I don’t think she expected it to be. What I will say, as a huge Jinkx fan, is that the reliance on jokes about being an old woman are becoming somewhat rote. It’s her brand, I get it, but we’ve seen far more impressive iterations of that so far this season (her Judy Garland Snatch Game obviously being the peak) than this. I did really enjoy her take on Dolly on the runway—it was a perfectly Jinkx way to interpret the prompt. While it must sting to be blocked again by Viv, let’s be honest: the odds of Jinkx winning a design challenge were slim to none anyway. She’s just gotta hope that whoever wins that challenge doesn’t think about blocking Jinkx once more.
