Pride Toronto to reschedule upcoming meeting

Dec 14 is date of the final Pride Panel session

Pride Toronto (PT) is rescheduling an upcoming general meeting after discovering it conflicts with one of the Pride Community Advisory Panel sessions focusing on racialized people and people of colour.

The meeting was originally scheduled for Dec 14. PT executive director Tracey Sandilands tells Xtra PT is now working to find an alternative date.

The Dec 14 panel session will be held at the 519 Church Street Community Centre from 6:30pm to 9pm.

“It was an honest mistake,” she says. “We are not involved in the community consultations. As soon as we were notified this morning of the conflict, we set about rescheduling.”

No new date has been finalized yet, she says. “We certainly don’t want to interfere with the community consultations. We will reschedule.”

In the latest PT newsletter, which was emailed Thursday, the agenda for the general meeting includes the presentation of the audited financial statements, bylaw amendments and the election of a director to fill the position vacated by Genevieve D’Iorio.

To nominate someone for the director position, visit the PT website at pridetoronto.com.

PT is also recruiting its team of year-round volunteers. Aside from the board members, this also includes the senior volunteer coordinators of the 23 committees and committee members.

There are about 150 year-round volunteers who put in about 10 hours per week in the months leading up to the festival and 20 hours per week from April to June.

PT is looking for a number of coordinator roles for 2011/2012 events, including Golf Day, 40 Plus, Dyke March and Youth. Contact PT for more details.
