Like a bad high school breakup that was somewhat expected but still painful, HBO Max has dumped plans for a reboot of Degrassi.
Earlier this year, WarnerMedia announced the reboot would air on HBO Max in 2023. Shooting for the 10 hour-long episodes was originally slated to start in Toronto over the summer.
Fans started worrying back in August. That’s when reports surfaced that the streaming platform was going to drop some scripted shows. The breakup became official Thursday with a Wall Street Journal article that came on the same day as Warner Bros. Discovery reported third-quarter results that fell far short of expectations.
The reboot, which would have been a co-production with WildBrain Studios, would have marked the latest in long line of series under the Degrassi franchise, which first aired 40 years ago and still has a dedicated legion of fans.
