‘Canada’s Drag Race’ Season 2, Episode 2 power ranking: The greatest show on earth

A few outstanding performances showed who isn’t clowning around in this competition

Welcome to Canada’’s Drag Race Power Rankings! Every Friday, we’ll debrief the week’s new episode of Canada’s Drag Race Season 2 to determine which queens are riding high, and which need she-mergency care. A Rusical gives the power ranking a pretty drastic shift, but it’s the Brat Pack that inspires the closest examination.

11. Océane Aqua-Black (last week: 9) — ELIMINATED

Ugh, I’m so sad. We deserved so much more time with Océane, and yet when it came to this week’s bottom two, I’m ultimately glad she went home over her competitor. Océane brought such a sense of fun and life to the show, as evidenced by her philosophy when sharing her story of abandonment. She seems like someone who takes every opportunity and runs with it, which is a terrific attitude. I’m glad she didn’t get Eureka’d or Victoria Scone’d because of her knee and was able to leave after such a dynamite lip sync performance. That’s how all queens should hope to end their time on Drag Race.

10. Icesis Couture (last week: 1)

Man, this one was close. Icesis utterly bombed the challenge in a role that she fought hard to secure for herself. Her failure appeared to shock the judges, with Brooke Lynn Hytes seemingly reconsidering her previous positive opinion of Icesis. Luckily, both on the runway in a great mime look that actually recalled an old Raven All Stars look and in the lip sync, Icesis proved she deserves to be here. Now it’s just a matter of making sure a dip like this never happens again.

9. Eve 6000 (last week: 10)

My antagonist queen! I want Eve to last for as long as humanly possible in this competition. Even after she’s eliminated, I want her to stick around and just needle the queens in the workroom during mini-Untucked. And honestly, if she keeps delivering runways on the level of her “Lucille Ball as a circus clown getting swallowed by a lion,” she’ll probably be around for a while! I appreciate that Eve is a shit stirrer who can back it up with great drag. She should work on those challenge performances, though. The reveal character was such a gimme, and the fact that Eve found a way to fuck it up does not speak well to her performance abilities. But who cares? She’s my camp villain queen, and she can do nothing but be iconic in my eyes.

8. Suki Doll (last week: 2)

Like Icesis, Suki fell a good distance from where she was after last week’s premiere. Unlike Icesis, Suki did not get the part she wanted, and thus can chalk a bit of her failure up to being stuck with a bad role. She and the other comedy clowns were a real disaster on stage, and it’s lucky for Suki that Icesis did so much worse. More troubling for her overall trajectory is that she apparently is not a comedy queen, which will prove to be a challenge in most of Canada’s Drag Race’s task styles. She’ll need to find a way to be funny fast, otherwise I could see an earlier than expected departure for Suki.

7. Adriana (last week: 4)

She was the best of the bad lot among the comedy clowns, but that really isn’t saying much. Her showing was much better on the runway as a pretty stunning tightrope walker in a skintight bodysuit. She also got some narrative time this week, sharing how it was to move to Quebec City from Colombia 13 years prior. I unfortunately am not seeing enough to believe Adriana isn’t an early out yet, but we are only two episodes in. There’s time!

6. Stephanie Prince (last week: 3)

Like Adriana, she gets credit for being far better in her bit than her partner, and for looking stunning in a bearded showgirl look on the runway. I really like Stephanie’s general energy in the competition—she’s feisty, but she’s not unnecessarily bitchy or unpleasant. She’s just a really good character, and clearly very talented at drag. I’m a fan!

5. Kimora Amour (last week: 8)

Talk about knowing your limitations: Kimora went straight for the Bianca Del Rio-inspired role, knowing it would not require any singing. And at least in rehearsal, it paid off big. Sadly, something got a bit lost between rehearsal and the live performance, and her previous quick-witted bitchery came across as too scripted. Still, in a sea of poor performances, Kimora was clearly among the better. On the runway, I liked the idea of her clean up-after-the-circus runway (“Bitch, I am wearing trash!”), but it’s the second runway we’ve seen from her with a lot of shit all over it. I’d love to see an edited look from her on the runway next week.

4. Synthia Kiss (last week: 6)

I’ve seen some widespread sentiment within the fanbase that Synthia was robbed of a top spot this week, if not the win. While I do get that, vocally, she was in another class, her performance just didn’t have the nuance it needed to stand up next to her fellow Brat Packers and Pythia. Moreover, her runway look was a bodysuit with a clown cape topper, which looked really downscale compared to all the other queens’ looks. While I do think Synthia did well this week, I fully accept that she shouldn’t have made it into the top over anyone else. It’s gonna take a bit more than this to get her first win.

3. Gia Metric (last week: 11)

On some level, I do think Gia was the beneficiary of the opposite effect that befell Icesis and Suki this week: she was so underwhelming last week that there was nowhere to go but up. And to her credit, her performance as Himbo was really good. I also liked her human cannonball runway more than Brooke Lynn did. I will say this, though: last week Gia’s wig was very Gigi Goode, and now this week, she wore a helmet as part of her runway. Helmets were a signature item for Gigi during Season 12. Coincidence? I think not. Soon enough, she’ll be calling herself Giagia!

2. Kendall Gender (last week: 7)

At the time of watching the episode, I was pretty high on Kendall’s potential win. It felt like a real victory for non-singers thriving in the Rusical, and she just brought such dynamic energy to the part. In the light of day, I can see why she didn’t: Pythia did everything Kendall did and then some, and also had a far superior runway look. Still, good for Kendall for really defying expectations on this one. I’m impressed at her range already.

1. Pythia (last week: 5)

Much as I might’ve flirted with a Kendall win, this was the only way for things to go. Pythia smashed the Rusical as Hennywise, identifying a part she could succeed in during cast assignment and committing to it completely. She also looked nothing short of drop dead gorgeous as conjoined twins on the runway. Pythia embraced the Circus Berzerkus theme, and the result was stunning. A terrific first win, and a major boost for Pythia in the competition.
