Brad Pitt tries to buy my love

As gay marriage in California gets put to a vote yet again in November, the anti-gay groups are out-fundraising us but look: it’s Brad Pitt to the rescue! The actor has donated $100,000 to the campaign and says, “because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8.” Meanwhile, his Jolie-Pitt Foundation is starting an HIV/AIDS clinic in Ethiopia. Okay Brad, just stop this. Ever since “Thelma and Louise,” you’ve been flashing your abs at me and swearing you won’t marry Angelina but it won’t work. I will never love you! Move on!

From San Francisco to London, the Guardian UK has picked the ten best places in the world to be gay in, the five worst places and the five most improved. No city in Canada appeared on any of the lists: not too hot, not too cold, we’re the porridge Goldilocks chose!

On the season finale of “Weeds,” Hunter Parrish did another nude scene and admits, “the first time I did it, I was like, ‘Uh oh, there’s a lot of people…staring at my butt.’” Glad to see this trouper kept calm and carried on!

As the US government paid $85 million for an 80% stake in AIG (capitalism has never been so communist!), Barack Obama unveiled his clearest, most direct campaign ad yet:

After eight years of Bush/Cheney, we see an intelligent, eloquent and humane leader talking to the American people like adults. Oh man, Obama is so gonna lose!

As for our own election, the candidates were out stumping yesterday on “child and family issues.” While that’s normally just code for gay-bashing, they actually were talking about helping kids. Dion wants to give them a fortune in university grants and loans, Layton wants to spend a fortune on day care for them, and Harper wants to take away their smokes. Oh man, Harper is so gonna win!

“Sex and the City” creator Candace Bushnell is working on “The Carrie Diaries,” a novel for younger readers featuring Carrie Bradshaw as a teenager. Because you’re never too young to be an up-the-butt girl.

A former editor of the late, lamented fab magazine, Scott has been writing for Xtra since 2007 on a variety of topics in news pieces, interviews, blogs, reviews and humour pieces. He lives on the Danforth with his boyfriend of 12 years, a manic Jack Russell Terrier, a well-stocked mini-bar and a shelf of toy Daleks.
