The 20th anniversary Mr Leatherman Toronto (MLT) is still searching for a new home for the event’s vendor market, but the contest and dance will be held once again at the Phoenix Concert Theatre.
The weekend of leather-clad fun runs from Nov 25 to Nov 28.
Following a MLT board meeting on Thursday, board chairman Howard Levine told Xtra on Friday the Primrose Hotel has cancelled the contract with MLT, leaving organizers hunting for a new location for the vendor market.
“The rumour is the hotel will be sold and converted into Ryerson residences,” he said. “We want the vendor market location to stay in the (Church and Wellesley) Village. It needs to be accessible for people.”
Levine said the board should have a venue for the vendor market finalized by next week. Last year there were 25 vendors, selling fetish, leatherwear and various kinky gear.
The seminars for the event will be held at the 519 Church Street Community Centre this year, he said.
As of Friday, Levine said, there are five contest contestants confirmed, but he expects a few more to register before the event. Last year, he said, there were seven contestants.
“We’re very optimistic the event will be a success,” he said.
MLT is a volunteer-based not-for-profit corporation dedicated to producing events that celebrate leather culture while promoting the community and the city.
