Johnny Weir blasted by gay pornstar Michael Lucas

Former Olympic figure skater's decision to cover Sochi Games draws fire

Johnny Weir has captured the attention of gay pornstar Michael Lucas. The former Olympic figure skater’s decision to cover the Olympic Games for NBC has been criticized by some in the LGBT community who have called for a boycott of the Games because of Russia’s abysmal record on gay rights.

Johnny Weir has captured the attention of gay pornstar and producer Michael Lucas — but not in a good way.

Weir has been attacked for his decision to attend and cover the Sochi Olympics for NBC despite calls by some in the LGBT community to boycott the Games because of Russia’s abysmal record on gay rights. Lucas has been a vocal supporter of a boycott.

In the above video Lucas says that Weir is being accepted by Russians because he fits their idea of gay men. “Russians love flamboyant clowns,” he says.

For his part, Weir has stated to Reuters, “While equality is necessary all over the world, the Olympics is not the place for me to make a stand.”

The interview clip is from a longer interview Daily Xtra did with Lucas on his upcoming documentary on gay rights in Russia, entitled The Campaign of Evil.
