Francisco Alvarez has abruptly resigned from the Pride Toronto board of directors, of which he served as co-chair since 2010.
Alvarez, who joined the board in 2009, confirmed the news in a Facebook post, stating he had “mixed emotions” about the decision.
Sean Hillier, the remaining co-chair, said it was “a personal decision that [Alvarez] chose to leave the board” but declined to offer further details, saying a statement would be released shortly. He added that the executive would be recomposed at the first meeting following the AGM on Oct 24.
Alvarez, who has been a driving force in PT’s WorldPride planning, led the organization through a transformative period that included several controversies, financial difficulties and political upheavals.
Efforts to contact executive director Kevin Beaulieu and other members of the Pride Toronto board have been unsuccessful.
