Memorial held for Jane Rule on Galiano Island

Those who knew her share their stories

On Dec 9, Galiano Island celebrated the life and legacy of Jane Rule.

Those who were close to her shared their memories of a great writer, activist, role model and friend.

“She lives on in all of us,” said Jenny Jarvis, a friend of Rule. “She had a capacity to love people of any walk of life, any style and she was non-judgmental — an incredibly wonderful woman.”

“She was one of the first women in Canada — in North America — who had the courage to say it’s not only okay but great to be a lesbian,” said Sylvie Beauregard, another friend.
