Sex workers rally for decriminalization

New Ottawa group takes message to the Hill

Ottawa sex workers rallied on the Hill Sep 18, as the sound of Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” blared from the group’s speaker system.

The rally called on politicians in Canada’s next federal government to decriminalize sex work. Organizers say the current laws don’t work and actually have the effect of forcing sex workers into dangerous situations.

This was the first event organized by the city’s newly formed sex worker group, Prostitutes of Ottawa/Gatineau Work Educate and Resist (POWER).
