On Jan 11, the Halton Catholic District School Board’s Policy Development Committee voted to recommend the board rescind the ban on gay-straight alliances at their next meeting, scheduled for Jan 18.

The meeting included complaints of “external pressures over the past few days” and one trustee telling the biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Another warned that, since word of the board’s actions had spread, defunding the Catholic school board is being discussed as an election issue.

Gay trustee Paul Marai told his fellow board members: “Quite frankly this matter is damaging the reputation of this board.”

This is a developing story.
