Celebrating International Women’s Week

March this way!

With International Women’s Week (IWW) just around the corner, it’s good to be a girl.

This year, the Canadian date for the week-long celebration of women is Mar 6-12, with International Women’s Day set for Tue, Mar 8.

According to Status Of Women Canada, IWW – established in 1977 by the United Nations – provides an opportunity “to reflect on the progress made” regarding women’s equality, to “assess the challenges facing women in contemporary society,” to consider the “future steps” needed to enhance the status of women and “to celebrate the gains made in these areas.”

The theme for this year’s Canadian IWW is You Are Here: Women, Canada And The World.

In honour of the annual celebration, the Women’s Voices Festival kicks off the week’s festivities with Canadian singer/songwriter Ferron, in concert at the Bronson Centre on Sat, Mar 5 – an event that is open to both men and women. WVF wraps up the week with a women-only dance at the Churchill Senior Centre on Sat, Mar 12.

All proceeds raised during the concert and the dance will go to benefit WVF.
