QUEER NEWS AROUND THE WORLD 🌎

👉Out of the closet and into the cabinet 👀. Joe Biden will nominate Pete Buttigieg as transportation secretary, a top job in his cabinet. That means Buttigieg, a former mayor from South Bend, Indiana, will become the first openly LGBTQ2S+ person to serve as a Senate-appointed cabinet secretary in the United States. Plus, new internal documents from Health Canada show the national health regulator supports lifting the blood ban. So why hasn’t Prime Minister Justin Trudeau moved to end it?

TBH, CULTURE IS QUEER 🤷🌈

👉Spreading holiday cheer to trans youth 💜🎄. Pose star Indya Moore is using their platform to create the TranSanta social media campaign to provide gifts to young trans people in need, including those who are homeless and in foster care. And queering T-Swift: Every song on Taylor Swift’s new album, evermore, ranked by their gay subtext.

All these stories and much more in this week’s Xtra Weekly.

On occasion, the number of editors and other staff who contribute to a story gets a little unwieldy to give a byline to everyone. That’s when we use “Xtra Staff” in place of the usual contributor info. If you would like more information on who contributed to a particular story, please contact us here.
